National Library of Israel, Jerusalem

In celebration of its 120th anniversary, the
National Library of Israel has launched its 12 Artists series, inviting 12 contemporary artists to create new piece based on an archive from the NLI's collections. For Sfar, a site-specific projection for the library's entrance glass wall, I worked with the archive of the German- Jewish expressionist poet and artist, Else Lasker- Schüler. Using mirror-writing and rear projection, Sfar is looking at Lasker-Schüler's work, ever-in-tension between imagination and reality, Europe and the Orient, German and Hebrew.
